Description
Alderbrook Lagoon is a shallow inlet of the Columbia River in Astoria that is cut off from the main river by the Burlington Northern railroad line, now converted to the Astoria Riverwalk Hike as a rails-to-trails project. From the late 19th century into the mid-20th, the lagoon was the site of several cannery operations. Up the slope from Alderbrook Lagoon is the Mott Basin area of Astoria, where bar and river pilots lived in classic homes. You can make a loop around the lagoon on trails and streets to rejoin the Astoria Riverwalk.
