Deschutes River, flower report. Photos added.

Post by Double Tree » April 9th, 2017, 7:03 pm

Backpacked in for Saturday night. Very windy on Saturday, enough to make me concerned about my tent. Few flowers although lots of buds just waiting. A few blooming balsam root, a couple lupine just beginning to bud. Shooting stars on the Ferry Springs loop are at peak. Balsam root at least a week away from a prettier showing, and lupine behind that. Froze overnight down near the water where we camped, although it wasn't freezing up on the road.

There were quite a number of flowering trees. Apple and maybe cherry I suppose. It is an old homestead site.

Yellow parsley among the rocks at around mile 5, near rapids.

Nice photos and thanks for the heads up on the flower situation. I've still never made it to the Deschutes, hoping to change that soon!

One of our favorite places! Thanks for the flower update, too. It is about 2 weeks later this year than in years past.

Sean, you would really enjoy a run down to Mack's Canyon and back, I think! :)
