I took advantage of our cold, clear weather to get my backpacking year started early. We are so lucky to have the Olympic coast within a long day's drive. Although I've hiked the full southern section of the coast, this was my first time trying the northern section. It was an out-and-back from Rialto Beach to Cedar Creek (about 17 miles RT). The days were short, the weather was clear, and the place was wondrously empty.

The hike on Day #2 between Cape Johnson and Cedar Creek had some great views

The winter sunsets were long and amazing.

Fixed (I think). Image hosting never gets easy.

Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

yeah, great pictures
I was there several years ago and do some beach trip at least once a year
winter is great if you wait for a good weather window, and tide

Wonderful photos! I have had the same idea of catching a good winter weather window and backpacking that northern section. It looks like you timed it perfectly! Thanks for the reminder! What were the night time temperatures like for you?

The lows were in the 20s. The highs were in the 30s. The first two days were sunny (I actually got a sunburn). The last day was overcast with mild showers. I just brought a lot of layers like I was snow camping. I didn't retire to the tent until 8:30ish each night. Great sunsets and stars. But, yeah, it was cold . . .Webfoot wrote:Alluring photos.
