Hood North Side

Post by Rabid Swans » May 18th, 2018, 6:49 am

Has anyone attempted accessing the trailheads on the north side of Hood recently? Top Spur, Vista Ridge, Pinnacle Ridge? I assume Vista will take a few more weeks, but Top Spur should be mostly melted out. I would normally start probing up these roads myself this time of year, but I've moved to Seattle so I'm out of the loop. Any info would be much appreciated!

according to http://adamschneider.net/hiking/snow_depth.html you should be able to drive within a mile of the trailhead

Pinnacle Ridge is not an option. There is an irrigation project in progress that has Laurance Lake road closed at the gate above the settling pond. It will be closed for the entire season.

There was a May 8th McNeil Shelter report on the on the Portland Hikers Facebook Page. Said he got within 2 miles of Topspur. I'd bet that's down to less that a mile now.

We went to Burnt Lake last Sunday, solid snow around the Lake and still 80% frozen. By Tuesday the lake was completely thawed out!
