Pilot Knob?

Post by DannyH » January 24th, 2018, 7:36 pm

My trails illustrated map has the hill North of Carson that the PCT Northbound from Wind River Highway crosses almost immediately labeled at Pilot Knob. It looks like an easy hike up a ridge from the PCT. Does anyone know what the land ownership is? The map I have makes it look like public land, but I don't think it's very reliable in that sense.

Gated forest road 3070 goes basically to the top of the hill, but that doesn't seem very scenic.

Thanks!

I believe that the entire route is on public land at least if you do it from the Wind River Hwy. Here is a GPS derived map of a hike I did on 041515:

And another I put together for a page I never did get around to finishing:

Lots of nice old growth along the route I took back from the summit.

Thanks Don, next time I'm up that way I'll add Pilot Knob to whatever I'm doing. Hope you're having a good winter.
