Snowy trails along highway 20? Iron/Cone?

Hi,

Thinking about finding some snow to hike around in but since forest roads are starting to close and/or get dicey, I was looking at the highway 20 corridor, specifically at the Iron Mountain/Cone Peak complex. I've never been, so:

- is this a reasonable target in winter conditions, and if so,
- is there a route that would work best as a short or moderate hike or snowshoe?

I couldn't find too much about winter trips on these trails. Thanks!

edit: Just found jessbee's report (viewtopic.php?t=22872) but any additional notes are welcome :)

Hey, glad you found me, haha. I've snowshoed this area many times. Park at Tombstone Pass, which is accessible all winter, and have at it. Trails to Iron Mountain and Come Peak after not marked for winter travel so be confident in your navigation skills. This is a very fun place to explore on the snow, and you'll likely have it all to yourself.
