PCT Closure in Jeffy Park, Looking for a new ~7 day trip

Post by Giles » August 1st, 2017, 7:05 am

Hello, I have been planning a section hike of the PCT from the Three Sisters to Mt. Hood for more than a year. Well... There is fire now and the PCT is closed in Jefferson Park. I need a backup plan for my group of four.

I will be on a trip in the Wallowas the week before this one, so I am looking for some recommendations in other areas.

Thanks!

Mt Hood to Cascade Locks? except there's a fire on Eagle Creek but you will likely be able to detour around.

Around Mt Hood? Around Three Sisters?

Head south rather than north. Start at Hwy 22 and go through the Mt Washington and Sisters Wilderness areas and pop out at Hwy 58.

We are in the same position. We were going to start at the Santiam Pass trail access and end at Timberline. I was holding out hope that they would have everything under control and reopen the trail, but that doesn't look promising. I'm thinking of taking a shorter trip and just starting at Olallie or Breitenbush lake and heading north. Maybe camp somewhere for a few days and then walk.
