Water level at Oneonta Gorge

Post by lichenhikin » May 28th, 2015, 10:49 pm

I've done the Oneonta Gorge logjam and ford in July and August and can't wait to go back. I'm 5'1" on a good day and I don't love freezing water; can anyone tell me what the water level is like now, or where it's generally at around June-ish?

I think it changes as much year to year as it does month to month. At least that's my experience--I've been there when it was barely waist deep and when it was over my head (I'm 6'5"), with little noticeable difference in the depth/flow in other parts of the creek. Not that that answers your question at all. But I have seen someone successfully spider crawl the rocks on the right side to avoid the deep water.

That's what I did last summer. There was a ledge just below the water on the right (west) side that made it pretty easy. So you don't stay totally dry, but you're only knee-deep instead of chest-deep.
