I agree with the sentiment but I think there is negligible chance of that happening, and they know it.

At which place? You might want to contact one of those TV news reporters (from KGW or KOIN).

As for the idea of a boycott, it won't work for August 20 because SOMEONE will book those rooms, but the Liberty Inn may pay for their greed in the long run because people are loading up their Facebook, Yelp, and TripAdvisor pages with nasty reviews.

I heard about this on TV news, so that's already been tried. There may be no solution for the eclipse but if people so treated post bad reviews on which ever site, saying not to trust these places because they will dump you to make more money, it might get some kind of response. After all how much more income can they get from an event that is one day, and how does that compare to getting bad reviews? Bad online reviews are a serious thing for small business.

You don't need to stay overnight in the eclipse zone, it's only an hour from pdx

Come on, Jerry. People don't just want to see it, they want to party. And not at home.

I am still waiting for Orbitz to contact me back.

I don't like the cloud probability in the Willamette valley.

August - there can be thunderstorms in Eastern Oregon although 10 AM is probably good

maybe good to look at weather reports a few days ahead and then decide where to go

EEEEEXXXACTLY! I'm from Seattle, if I'm driving from Seattle, it's not going to be to stay in some roach infested normally $40 a night hotel for $200. So for me part of it is cost, and the other part is adventure.

Last year or the year before I went hiking near the PCT out side of Cle Elum/Roslyn/Salmon la Sac Washington, about 7 miles up the forest road where the pavement ends at Salmon La Sac. We didn't know it, but it was a full moon that weekend, and one of the fullest/closest full moons I've ever seen. At 1 AM it was so bright out, you could see all the way across the lake (which was probably around 500 or so feet maybe) and see the other bank, all the way to and through the first line or two of trees. It was like daytime, actually it was probably about what this will be.

The Eclipse goes south of Salem, north of Madras, and so I'm thinking Warm Springs or Olallie. I want to make sure where I go is like a true back country area, I try to get in a 4 or 5 mile in to a Lake and 5 mile back out backpacking overnight once a year, and I think I can kill 2 birds with one stone and go someplace I haven't yet been.
