Conditions for snowshoeing in Mount Hood area

Post by LisaDHolmes » March 5th, 2015, 7:38 pm

This year has been quite challenging for snowshoeing trips! As a hike leader for a Portland women's hike group, I have a snowshoe trip planned for the 15th in the Frog Lake SnoPark area, but I very much doubt that we will have enough snow. So, does anyone know of a spot on Hood that does have enough snow?

Timberline to Silcox Hut is probably the only place you will find snow. Or Timberline to Boy Scout Ridge, possibly.

Thanks! I didn't know if even Timberline would have enough, so I think I'll do a waterfall hike instead. We are lucky to have so many choices here, no matter what the conditions are.

Agreed! Tamanawas Falls would be a nice hike right now, before all the crazy crowds get out there. Or the Gorge trifecta of Upper McCord and Elowah Falls, and then Wahclella. I know bobcat posted photos showing that the Columbia Kittentails are in bloom right now on the Upper McCord trail.
