Great trip report, I liked the photos (so much granite!) and the story. Looks like you timed it well coming in Sunday afternoon.
That sign with the quotes, I imagine a ranger asking someone with a campfire - "did you see the sign?" - "Yes, sir, but we took it literally".
I really need to take a second look at Wallowas, after a mixed experience back in 2011.

Lovely report and wonderful pics! I've viewed Ice Lake from the Matterhorn, which I reached from Sacajawea Peak, but haven't yet taken the trail to the lake itslef and camped there. I'm anxious to do so. There was smoke in the air that somewhat diminished summit views when I was there several years ago, though I believe much of it was attributed to Oregon fires. I happened to set off on a trip in Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness the same time you were in the Eagle Cap, and it was quite hazy there due to smoke blowing in from other states (and probably Oregon).

Wow, what a fantastic trip. It's nice to live vicariously through your photos. One more place I have to put on the wish list.
