Jefferson Park, 30 June

Post by chiefWright » July 1st, 2018, 7:47 pm

Hiked to Jefferson Park from South Breitenbush TH on Saturday. This is just a teaser-- it was so glorious up there I want to return on Wednesday from a different TH and post lots of pics and flowery descriptions on both adventures.

Maybe 10 cars in the lot at 9 AM. About a dozen at 5 PM. Encountered maybe a dozen souls all told all day.

South Breitenbush trail is in good shape, maybe less than 10 blowdowns to maneuver. But per the trail description, be prepared for a lot of loose rock. You're going to be looking at your footing instead of scenery after the first 2 miles.

The park is glorious. Campsites are mostly clear. Snowpack is <50%. There's still enough snowmelt that every rivulet is running full. Meadows are bursting with green and wildflowers and still weeks before peak. On 1-10 scale, skeeters were 2, though we had a lovely breeze all day.

No damage on the South Breitenbush trail, and none in the park. Tomorrow I'm going up Woodpecker Ridge, which was inside last year's Whitewater fire boundary. Probably a different story.
