Tumala Mountain: Finding the Upper Fanton Trailhead

Post by serenepdx » May 15th, 2018, 7:51 pm

A beautiful hike. Still a lot of snow on the trail as of 5/13/18. Generally it was an easy walk with hiking boots, but it gets steep and snow covered near the top. Quiet and beautiful, and not too hard. I'm writing today to update the instructions for finding the Upper Fanton Trailhead for the shorter hike up the mountain as described in http://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide ... ntain_Hike

The "secret" to finding the trailhead is having the distance from the intersection of Divers Road and Tumala Mountain Road. From that point, it's 12.3 miles to the turnout. You'll see a rough road to your right. At this intersection, there is now a permanent trailhead marker, pictured. Head up that road and you will see the trail on the left side leading up and east. The trail itself does not have a marker.

Park here, or it's possible to drive the short distance up the road to the single track trail.

Thanks, I've made the alterations in the Field Guide. Looks like there was a typo . . . sorry if it inconvenienced.
