King's Mountain

Post by sgyoung » April 2nd, 2018, 9:19 pm

Along with fellow OH users Arturo and Manny, I took a trip up King’s Mountain on Sunday. My coast range hikes have been few and far between, so this was a new one for me. The weather was iffy (at best) but it was a fun, quick hike. Given the conditions we didn’t try the more ambitious loop over to Elk, although I’m pretty sure both my hiking partners have done it in the past.

The trail was in nice shape, not overly muddy at all, and mostly free of snow, aside from a few patches very near the summit. This may have already changed, but at least as of 4/1 you could avoid snow the majority of the time and didn't need traction.

Overall, it was cold, windy, occasionally rainy/snowy, but a lot of fun. It was nice getting to spend some time on the trail with friends.

Here are some pictures to give an idea of the conditions and snow level.
