Fish Lake Guard Station

Last week, a group of us stayed at the Fish Lake Guard Station, near Santiam Pass.
This is the view of Fish Lake from the porch of our cabin. It sits on a porous lava bed, and drains in the summer into the McKenzie River.
This is a historic site, a >100 year old remount waystation on the Santiam Wagon Road. A group of volunteers help renovate or maintain the structures, and the forest service rents out two of the cabins.
During a snowstorm in January, there aren't many visitors, it felt like we were occupying a ghost town, or the last people remaining after the apocolypse. Delightful area!
