Hood River Frost Forest (Dec 9)

Post by Splintercat » December 9th, 2017, 8:44 pm

If you don't mind slick roads, now is a great time to head up into the mountains surrounding the Hood River Valley for some beautiful frost forest scenery. These are from spurs along Kingsley Road, on the east slope of Mount Defiance. The effect should continue while the temperature inversion is in place -- through mid-week, according to the forecast. But watch out on paved roads in the frost zone... very sketchy!

Hi Tom. Nice pics. My favorite is #5.
What was your elevation? I encountered similar conditions on Table Mountain around 2400'-ish (same day).

Cool, Webfoot! Glad you got to see it!

@Chip - that's about right. I think I was at about 3,000 feet.

All photos are just amazing! Nature sleeps, covered with a blanket of snow. This winter is the most beautiful time of the year. It may be cold, the roads may be tricky, but this is the perfect time to calm down, reflect on the past and plan for the future. These are the thoughts and mood that the trees in the snow bring to me.
