Thanks! Unfortunately it appears the sat image isn't as high of a resolution as the images you'd find on a normal Google map, but nonetheless that image deserves to be seen in a bigger format. This is the first real look I've had at Tanner ridge, and man, it got fried. I think the whole west side is gone; the deeper reddish color on the top must be trees that are still standing but are all turned brown - hopefully some of them will survive.

Damn, Bear Grass Alley is smoked then. Dublin Lake looks smoked also...

At least the bear grass almost always survives and grows back quickly. And it looks like Benson Plateau mostly escaped.

I say oh well. So much of that area had the appearance of a monoculture tree plantation. It was predominantly same age, evenly spaced stands of pacific silver fir. I have to believe the forest will come back more varied and vibrant.

Mt Adams has a new area of bear grass where the PCT burned below Horseshoe Meadow and of course there is the glacier lilies on Vista Ridge. But not all burned areas get better wildflowers - not sure what it depends on. I expect at least some of the burned areas from this fire will have more flowers.

sometimes the duff burns down several inches, then it takes longer to grow back

if the fire just stays on the surface it comes back quickly

I was just walking through the Dollar Lake fire area and even where the duff burned, there were plants starting to come back. Of course it'll take trees a long time.
