Wildflowers and Views PCT, 7/6 Wahtum Lake to Benson Plateau

Post by MarkInTheDark » July 8th, 2017, 1:55 pm

Did a quick overnite up on Benson Plateau, from Wahtum Lake.

The Pacific Crest Trail was alive with wildflowers. I noticed mosquitoes as soon as I arrived at Wahtum. Not so much along the trail, during the mid-day. Kinda buggie as usual on Benson Plateau, with deet I survived.

Ruckel Creek is flowing nicely at Benson Camp. Camp Smokey water is working too. Noticed lots of bird activity, including hummingbirds.

Due to the fire on Eagle Creek, there were notices posted at both Eagle-Benson/Camp Smokey and at the Wahtum cutoff trail where it meets Pacific Crest Trail. Also watch out on Forest Road 13, it has a few surprise serious dips, holes and other hazards.

Beautiful trail, saw about 15 hiker/backpackers...
