Clackamas River Trail Hike to Pup Creek Falls 5/21/17

Post by KPITZ » June 7th, 2017, 7:11 am

This was one of my favorite hikes so far this year. We intended to do this as a shuttle hike as listed but once we met at the Indian Henry Trail head we decided to just do the hike as an out and back with Pup Creek Falls being our turnaround point. Including the side trail to get to the falls it was about 10 miles total. Heading through the woods we saw a few small waterfalls and enjoyed walking through the half cave. Once the trail descends back down towards the river we used a little path to get to the river so our lab Moose could take a dip. The tiny beach area we got to had some calmer water but was too cold for anyone else to take a dip in. Before the trail gains too much in elevation we stopped at a grassy spot above the Narrows to watch everyone kayaking. Soon after we crossed Pup Creek; all of us opted to just take our shoes off and go straight through than try to rock jump. The creek is wider than we had anticipated and was moving relatively fast. At Pup Creek falls we took some time to explore the bottom of the falls, and it was incredible. By using the large fallen log opposite the trail to reach the other side of the falls you can enjoy the view from directly under the falls. After cooling off we headed back the way we came. The hike was not crowded at all, we maybe passed 4 other groups on the whole trail.
