Memaloose Hills flower report (no pics)

The Memaloose Hills are alive with the sound of flowers, but not all the regulars and a few of the lingerers.

Balsamroot - the peak will probably be April 25-26 this year.
Lupine - MIA
Paintbrush - a few clusters on both sides of hwy 30
Camas Lily - MIA
Death camas - a few heads in bloom south of Sunflower Hill
Buttercup - western buttercup all over the place, but only one bud of the plantain-leaf variety
Chocolate lily - look for the southern sun for the open ones
Blue-eyed Mary - no shortage
Grass widow - who would have thought? still a dozen or so areas in the shade of the cliffs
Arnica - not a one to be seen
Onions - nada
Parsley - a few Columbia lomation below the overlook, biscuit root, slender-fruited and nine-stem are doing well
Minors lettuce - like Olive Garden, the salad is endless
Big-head clover - looking good to the east, nothing close-in

In all, I counted 36 varieties of blooming flowers and four more with buds forming. The vegetation has really grown up this spring, so if you're following the game trails you knew from years previous, you might be scratching your head this year.

Arnica! Thank you. Saw the foliage and buds but no flowers yet. Couldn't remember the name of that one. I was in the same area yesterday.

I was just at Memaloose Hills last Thursday! Saw all the species you mentioned blooming, also saw a patch of five spectacular Fairy Slipper orchids (Calypso bulbosa) and a few Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) in the undergrowth on the rest stop side of the trail. What a great hike!
