Such a shame about the Chetwood :(

We hiked it in 2010 before the mayhem began!

Agreed! I've been very curious about this trail for years, and I'm hoping to hike it. I always like seeing reports like this one here! We need to keep interest in it so it can someday be restored.

Great report! I thought that this trail had been brushed out a good bit last year. Not the washout by the creek, but the portion up Wygant. I had heard there were ten million ticks. Sounds like an awesome day.

It is a great idea to use the power line road to combine the two hikes - I will do that next time.
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

The trail up to Wygant was in most excellent shape last spring! Someone had done a lot of work on it. (Including, even, cutting down trees to offer more views of Dog Mountain! )

See all the fresh-cut tree stumps and severed limbs?

And yeah, we were pickin' ticks off each other all damn day long.

Just what we did, too, last spring!
Sure wish(ed) the Chetwoot was passable!

Karl I probably should have given you credit for that loop idea as I think it was your track I pulled off of GPSFly that gave me the idea...thanks!

I am with Oregon State Parks--we have a youth crew who will be bucking out all 90 down logs on the Wygant Trail.

Hopefully, there will be some time to do some brushing starting from the top. Trail has some nice out sloping.

We plan to leave two large root wads due to time and priorities. We hope to hit this with a volunteer crew in the fall or spring.

And I only pulled four ticks off yesterday!

Yes, the Chetwoot is still basically an off trail adventure. Some day. . .
