Warning! NF-45 Unsafe for travel 03/19/2017

Post by cujames2103 » March 20th, 2017, 5:58 pm

We were stuck on NF-45 for 13 hours due to ice, snow, and poor driving conditions. The forest roads are not passable and if you try, the forest service nor the tow trucks will be able to get to you either.

The Memaloose Road (FS-45) is listed as closed per USFS website, as are many others.

Memaloose Rd has been closed since 2015 per the big fire down the Clackamas area. Suspect OP means another road.

It would definitely be difficult to get past that gate! As soon as I hit snow on forest roads, car turns off, cross country skis come out. Almost got stuck on Tumala Mtn. Rd... so now I'm way more cautious than probably need be.

I suspect the OP means the side of 45 that passes Hillockburn on its way to Memaloose.

Heading east out of Dodge on South Hillockburn Road it turns in to NF-45. If you head up NF-45, youll pass several other NF roads. We made it a few miles past the NF-45 / NF-4545 junction. However, others got stuck below that near NF-4510.

I didnt see any closures or fire damage. It may have been further up the road. I did read the post on this site describing the detour.

I spoke with one of the NF Park Rangers and he mentioned that it has been a rough winter up there. I would abide by the May or June to October recommendation :p.
