High Rock in the snow and fog- 11/25

Post by gratefultrails » November 25th, 2016, 9:32 pm

I have had a real itch to go skiing, and finally an opportunity to head up! Avoiding crowds and traffic was a must on this Black Fri, so I sacrificed quality/quantity for solitude in the upper reaches of the Clackamas watershed.

I drove up Rd. 58 to the pass where there is the intersection with Abbott Rd. and 58 turns R toward Timothy Lake. Driving furthur was easy, but there was enough sticky, wet snow on the side of the road to start skiing at this big junction. I didn't punch through to the road on the way up, but it was warm all day and had to hoof it back on foot on some parts.

Clouds became more numerous until I reached the very misty summit cliffs...

I will just post a few more shots of the excellent rock formations that Cascade down the mountainside from High Rock.

Overlooking 58 and the hills above Dinger Lake:

Looking down the cliffs into what would be Linney Creek valley

I think the traffic is somewhere out there through the fog on Hood...

Hopefully in a few weeks, there will be more snow and I can look back and laugh at this meager attempt!
