This isn't really a trip report, I just wanted to brag about having captured the following photo on my trip to Glacier & Waterton last month.
(The view wasn't bad either.)

Fortunately, they were not the kind that have humps.retired jerry wrote:you saw bears on Bear's Hump Trail?

No, we had less than 24 hours in WLNP. It was mostly, "hey, let's spend a night in Canada so we can say we did it." And it was almost not worth the trouble (except for the awesome bear photo) because the main road through the park is closed all summer!-Q- wrote:oh man, what a place. Love it there.

Similar experience here as well. Had only about 24 hours in waterton. For the first 16 hours, we had a blizzard and got a foot of snow. This was In August as well. Yikes!!adamschneider wrote:No, we had less than 24 hours in WLNP. It was mostly, "hey, let's spend a night in Canada so we can say we did it." Yeah, I'd be bragging too. Was that a lucky right-time-right-place thing, or did you go looking? How far away were you? Was it at all scary? Anyway, congrats. Maybe the best bear pic I've seen by a hiker.

Right place, right time. I was headed downhill, and the bears were going up; we were on parallel but non-colliding paths. So after Mama Bear and I saw each other (and both of us thought "oh shit!"), we just kept going on our respective ways, and I got my camera ready.Chip Down wrote:Yeah, I'd be bragging too. They passed by about 100' away; surprisingly, it wasn't very scary at all, because I knew the bears had no interest in a human encounter, and there was plenty of room for everyone to just mosey along.

Very Cool. Thanks for the bear photo.

I was just doing some reading about bear/human interactions online, and it turns out that the whole "mother bears are super dangerous" thing only applies to grizzlies. Black bears really don't want to get in a fight, even if there are cubs involved.
