Drove out to the Wallowas for the 4th of July weekend. Backpacked about 3 miles up the East Lostine Trail. This is the trail that I first went backpacking on as a kid. So I was really excited to get back out there all these years later. The hike is a decent up hill, with a steeper switchback section. After 3 miles it opens up into this amazing valley, which is where we camped.
There was a little bit of snow along the trail here and there, but nothing too bad. What was bad were the mosquitos. Luckily everything else about the trip was so perfect that the bugs could not ruin the trip!
We day hiked up the valley, about 2 miles. Did a lot of exploring around the river, just like when I was a kid. It was great! At the end of the valley, where the trail begins the accent to Mirror lake, is where the snow becomes more frequent. We turned back at this point, although we saw other on their way up. All in all its about 7 miles up to Mirror lake, which by August should be snow free.
I posted more photos on my blog. https://boredomtheadventure.wordpress.c ... -schedule/

Eagle Cap - Wallowa Forest 7/1/16 - 7/4/16
Re: Eagle Cap - Wallowa Forest 7/1/16 - 7/4/16
Looks like a great trip! I hiked that portion of the Lostine last September when there was almost zero snow in all of Eagle Cap. Looks much prettier with the snow on the mountains although it was nice to have no mosquitoes.
I've been wandering early and late, from New York City to the Golden Gate, and it don't look like I'll ever stop my wandering.

I hope to do a trip all the way to Mirror lake some fall! It's definitely on my bucket list.Paul2 wrote:Looks like a great trip! Looks nice. Is the music accompanying your video Walk Off the Earth? Sounds like them.

Another great video. You always look so full of joy. Loved your blog. I laughed out loud at your intro, it was all too familiar. Our two cats also set our schedule. One is very good at becoming dead weight and as he weighs eighteen pounds, it is not easy to move him. They always tend to disappear when we're trying to leave. Got delayed by two full days once.
