It was a pleasure hiking in this area, the best wildflowers I've seen all season. Happy hiker alert!
We had to bundle against brisk East winds at Rowena Plateau for the first stop of the morning.
But seeing the yellows and purples of gold stars, various desert parsleys, yellow bells, and grass widows captured all my attention, and the wind wasn't so bad.
The ponds on the plateau were erupting with frog sounds, so we stopped to listen among the grass widows...
Finally, near the edge of the plateau, the gold stars created some beautiful patchwork carpets across the grass.
Then we headed over to Castilleja Hill where the flower displays were extremely diverse! I don't know all the names, but we saw the ones mentioned above plus: glacier lilies, small blue eyed Marys, prairie stars of numerous varieties, balsamroot, buttercups, shooting stars, and these beautiful unknown ones:
And more grass widows...
I love that the floral displays only get better from here!

Thanks for the bloom update. It should be prime there in a couple of weeks.
