Lots of trip reports from the Dalles Mountain Ranch I know...but man, I can't believe I've never been there!
The wildflowers were absolutely amazing as was the weather.
I did make it to the car, not realizing I was having to cross some barbed-wire fences heheh

Opening pic:
The parking area is really nice (Discovery Pass required), and despite the warnings, I did not see any ticks or rattlesnakes.
The trail follows a road several times:
The day featured countless flowers, some I need help with identifying!
What is this?
However, the balsamroot and lupine were the stars:
A few puffy cumulus clouds really helped add texture to the skies
Approaching the car, I headed off trail, over 8-mile creek (no real trail it was sort of sinky/sketchy)
Then over a barbed wire fence (very entertaining for someone of my size)
However, the views were really worth it!
I can't describe the history of this car, but I can only imagine...
Leaving the car for a couple more barbed wire fences that were luckily easy to cross:
Turning east along the road to join back up with the trail
Cloud shadows:
Then back down toward a creek where I spent a long time just listening to the water flow and admiring the views.
Wholly molly these little guys were everywhere, I'm sure I trampled countless little pink flowers (what are they???)
Flower lined trails
Back toward the TH, just a few clouds and not a lot of wind! Only saw 5 people all day!

Beautiful, great stuff! Some nice shadowing on the hills for you too. Is a permit still needed to park at that upper trailhead?

I honestly didn't look, I would think so since it's still within the park?

I returned to the area today (just too pretty not to).
I confirmed that there are signs everywhere for a Discovery Pass...

Where are the Discovery Passes available in the area? Are they self issued there?
