Gorge PCT Series - April 2014

Unnamed waterfall (edit: "Pacific Crest Falls") along PCT above Herman Creek.

Over the last month we strung together a series of out-and-back PCT section hikes in the gorge. For the most part, we had not visited these trails before. A lot of variety, good training, easy to get to, no worry trail navigation, gentle grades, and very few other hikers this time of year. We found plenty of beauty, exciting weather, and many surprises. Maybe a little conditioning exercise and dampness but we had a great time.

Starting from North to South, we started one hike at the Whistle Punk trailhead near the old Wind River nursery. Headed South on the PCT up to the Sedum Point ridge. 13.5 miles and 2,000 EG.

Another hike started up Rock Creek where the PCT crosses the Red Bluff road about 9 miles north of Stevenson. Hiked South towards Table Mountain.
We didn't see anyone else all day on this one. 16.5 miles and around 2,000 EG.

Finally, a hike starting at the Bridge of the Gods heading South and up to the first ridge leading to the Benson Plateau.
14.5 miles and nearly 2,500 EG.

Our photos aren't in any particular order, but do offer a sampling of what's out there along the way. Enjoy!

Thanks for this compendium of reports. That Rock Creek section is little traveled, but certainly has its rewards.

Great sections of trail! That waterfall is called Pacific Crest Falls. One of my favorites in the spring, when the water is running strong.

Appropriately named falls. Now, was the trail named after the falls or was the falls named after the trail!

I think that photos of sunlight filtering through trees, are about my favorite kind of shots. Very nice. Thank you.
