Why would anyone want to camp where there's nothing but dragons, monsters and horseflies? I'd stay FAR away from a place like that! :o

Sounds like it's going to be crowded there. Probably people from oregonhikers.org wouldn't be that bad :)

It would depend. They'd definitely be better than dragons or monsters. But if they bite they might be worse than horseflies. ;)

Would the whitewater fire be of concern for this area?

Sort of. It's on the other side of Mount Jefferson but not too far away (5 miles, tops). It's a moot point anyway as all trails north of Minto Pass are closed now due to the fire, and it's a closure you should absolutely respect.

hmmm...

south of Minto is north facing slopes, not the best

a little further south, south of Three Finger Jack, would be good but close to Santiam Pass.
