We woke up early Saturday morning to be at the coast for the awesome low tides. Crescent beach seemed like a good spot(just north of Cannon Beach) to see if we could hike around Ecola Point. I've hiked around the point a few times but never had so much fun doing it. Thimble Rock, usually far out from the average beach walker was nearly reachable with the human hand:
The tip of Chapman Point(or Bird Rocks as they're known) were buzzing with what looked to be Common Murres. Seems they are breeding this far north on the coast again after being chased off/hunted down by eagles in years past? The number of birds was definitely still down compared to what I remember from childhood. Walking "through" Bird Rocks and Chapman Point is only doable some of the time. Mostly clammers and dog walkers taking advantage coming in from cannon:)
We turned around and headed north for Ecola Point:
Jojo spotted a washed up Harbor Seal:
The Ochre Sea Stars put on quite a show with the minus tides:
The purple ones are the coolest:
Two Oyster Catchers took flight as we came around the bend:
The Gooseneck Barnacles wish they could take flight:
I think this is a frilled dog winkle(sea snail)?
The Anemone viewing was off the charts as well:
Mossy Chiton:
What an amazing place out here! This is west of the Ecola viewing platform(looked to be currently closed) from down on the beach looking out towards Sea Lion Rocks:
Lots of sea caves around:
On the north side of Ecola Point Jojo spotted a photographer climbing out of the beach using the old rope. Hard to see in this photo but he is climbing out just to the right of the falls.
It was good to see the rope still intact
A look back down at the beach:
We walked up to the Oregon Coast Trail and hiked back to Les Shirley Park. As we left the Memorial Day Crowd was filing in and we left for home after a great morning on the beach.

Nice trip report and photos! This is my favorite beach on the north coast. I've been here many times, but never seen the tide so low… must have been a minus tide. I hope the harbor seal was just resting...

Thanks for the report! There is such great scenery at the coast. At first I thought it was a sea lion because it's black but then I realized, no, it's becoming compost as they say.
