A Hike around (just) the South Sister - 2014/08/08

It seems like just about everyone from Portland Hikers has moved to Bend! Lots of great stuff on the Three Sisters & Broken Top being posted at the moment. Chiyoko & I set a more modest goal of a loop around just the South Sister as I really wanted hike the "unofficial" route between the South & Middle Sister. It didn't disappoint!! Thanks Don & Jerry for your help with a map & gpx file. Also Rainrunner for your 2013 report of the crossing & semi hidden camp spot location with fresh water just before the long dry Wickiup Plain . Spectacular scenery up there!

For those who are curious here is a 7 minute 10 second synopsis of our 48 hour hike :)

Nice!

I hate going all the way down on the Green Lake Trail and then up the Camp Lake Trail

Better to go straight from the pass above Green Lake to Camp Lake

Yep that's just what I was thinking Jerry as we climbed back up to Camp Lake & looked over at the geography between the Broken Top Pass & Camp Lake. It looks very doable, going to have to give that a go one of these days.

I did it last year. Followed someone's trip report. Went up from the pass between Camp Lake and Chamber's Lakes. And just above Carver Lake. That seemed like a bad idea afterwards although I didn't kill myself.

Next time - go up from Camp Lake, up to about 7700 feet staying below Carver Lake. Once you get even with Carver Lake it's easy going down to the Green Laks pass.

Very well done (both the hike and the video). That looks like a great trip to do someday!

Great video and report. See, rangers can be very helpful ~~ especially in revealing a great spot to set up camp!
The mountains are calling and I must go.

The only drawback was that Ranger must have also told all the Mosquitoes for miles around about it too :)
