Today I hiked up to Munra Point in the beautiful Oregon sunshine. This short little hike is quite the workout. If some of those rocky sections were any steeper I would need rock climbing gear. I started from the Wahclella Falls trail head and walked over on the Gorge Trail 400. This would be my first time up here so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was steep going and I was huffing up the trail. The views were great.
Many flowers where on display such as these.
When I reached this part my first thought was, "You mean I have to climb over this?!"
Shortly after getting through that section I finally climbed up to the top. Here it is looking back.
Just a short scramble across here to reach the ridge out to the point.
And here it is looking out to the point.
I walked out to the point and sat down to enjoy the views. I remember reading a comment, maybe it was on this forum, about needing a balancing pole to walk out here like the ones used in the circus high-wire acts. That wouldn't be a bad idea.
I went the other way, South, along the ridge line to see where it would go.
I followed this ridge into the tree line and up into the mountain for about a mile and a half. It just kept going and going. Does anybody on this forum know where this trail leads to? I am curious and would like to know.
After that I headed back down the way I came, very slowly of course. Quite a nice hike. One last parting shot. So green.

This thread should answer your questions about the upper Munra trail Mark:I followed this ridge into the tree line and up into the mountain for about a mile and a half. It just kept going and going. Does anybody on this forum know where this trail leads to? I am curious and would like to know.

You seem confident following the first bit (and that is also the scenic bit!), so you can probably easily do a loop coming down either Tanner Creek or Nesmith Point Trail. Welcome to the site Mark!I followed this ridge into the tree line and up into the mountain for about a mile and a half. It just kept going and going. Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Thanks for the replies. It certainly answers my question. Now I will have to do this loop the next time I am there.
Another thing to note. When I got back down from Munra I attempted to go West on the Gorge Trail 400 but was blocked by the construction on the scenic highway. Is there a way through?

A couple weeks ago, at least, yes.MarkQ wrote:Thanks for the replies. It certainly answers my question. Now I will have to do this loop the next time I am there.

Temporary signage marked some of the way Eastward, but the way would have been more obscure heading West. At one point, the route to 400 ran behind a big earth scoopy machine and through a tangle of orange plastic fencing and over three dozen feet of branches. You wouldn't see it if you didn't know it was there.

Hi Mark
I was up there the same day around noon we took a nice nap on the point. Did you think it odd that the yellow flowers just covered the side of one hill.
The guys gave you good leads. Many hikes start here but all are long ones, at least for me.
One of my favorite hikes in the Gorge. Best view to.
