Minus Tides Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday

Post by Peder » August 9th, 2010, 10:50 am

If somebody (other than me) is planning a trip to the coast for tide pools this week, there are minus tides Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You can find tide tables here. Just in case you have no clue how to entertain yourself and/or the kids, here are some pictures from a trip at the end of July for the previous minus tide for inspiration:

We started at Yaquina Head (fee $8 (?) per car if you do not have a pass):

Then a stop to see the sea lions at the Newport Bayfront:

On the way north, a quick stop at Depoe Bay to check for whales:

Then starting from milepost 121.5 of Hwy 101 at the Salishan Market, Spa & Resort, we did a 6 mile loop to the end of Salishan Spit:

Some people use lots of energy hiking!
As far as I know there are always seals at the end of the spit:

Please do not disturb the seals.

If you remember to buy ice-cream on the way home, this kind of itinerary goes over well with the young ones!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…
