wow, great pictures
that looks similar to looking at lava flows looking down from Opie Dildock Pass
or as the PCT goes south of Yapoah crater, there are these lava flows next to the trail

I hadn't thought of that - good comment! I suppose the tour helicopters could give you a good view too.
