I hiked today (May 2) on the Cast Creek trail that starts near Riley Horse Camp in Old Maid Flats outside ZigZag.

To be honest, I had expected snow coverage to start much closer to 3500 ft and I was pleasantly surprised. Instead, there was no visible snow of any sort until I was above 3600 feet. At 3900 ft. the trail was becoming moderately choked with snow. It definitely would have been possible to press on higher from there. Navigation was still fairly easy and the snow coverage wasn't continuous, but I turned around in order to go down and eat my lunch at a snow-free elevation.

Augspurger Mountain (north of Dog Mt) 3660 ft.
Just a few patches remaining. Might be all gone by the weekend.

From Marble Mountain Sno-Park to the Rim of Mt St Helens, May 2 2018:

Spotty snow for the first 30 yards, then more or less continuous snow above that (a few patches of dirt or gravel). It wasn't continuous depth, but was patchy and probably will be hard to ski on very soon.

Looks like we're still a good ways out from snow-free dirt trails in that area!
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.

Table Mountain to Three Corner Rock:
As expected, PCT northbound after Table Mountain was clear. Strangely, approaching Three Corner Rock (last 1/2 or 3/4 mile) it was pretty consistently snowy. The Three Corner Rock spur trail from PCT was maybe 95% snow. Both trails are easy enough to follow, and firm enough to prevent postholing. No significant difficulties.

This was only around 3200' feet. I'm baffled that the snow around 3CR was so persistent.

Johnston Ridge and the Pumice Plains are ready for business, even if SR504 isn't!

That's east of Government Camp and slightly lower.

Shouldn't be any snow.

There was a photo on the PortlandHikers Facebook group today that showed bare ground and balsamroot blooming out up there.

Yep, I hiked there yesterday. Its 100% snowfree, as is the entire surveyors ridge. Its logged out as of yesterday too.
