Let me add that I'd like to drive no more than 2 hours from East Portland. I was considering some of the loops up and down Cast lake and Burnt lake. Those should be clear by now, right?

I can't speak first hand, but I would be very surprised if those weren't clear right now. although my favorite snow map claims it may be on the edge of a total melt out. This might be helpful to reference.

Trail to Twin Lakes from Wapinita Pass TH is snow-free, PCT all melted out as well - just small snow patches here and there - to within 1.5 miles of Barlow Pass (I didn't go all the way to Barlow).

Some minor snow patches at both lakes, probably less than 5% ground coverage. Trail above Upper Twin Lake was the snowiest, but even there I'd say 90% melted out. No bugs.

a lot of snow on Zigzag ridge right now. You could probably get to Burnt Lake. Getting up to Zigzag ridge from there would probably be a lot of snow if you didn't mind that. You could go to Ramona Falls

too bad the gorge trails aren't open

maybe something on Silver Star

Thanks folks for the ideas and information.
Thoughts about Trapper Creek Wilderness loop this weekend? Looks like it's got some miles and elevation that would be good for training.

Hey Everyone! I live in Vancouver BC and I'll be down in Portland next week (last week of May 2018)... my friend and I want to do an overnight in Mt Hood. I've mostly decided on McNeil Point and in reading all the posts here, I think McNeil Point from Top spur seems as though it will be snow free by around May 29. Can anyone confirm? (Also, I can't seem to find much info about whether the trail is well marked or not, off topic, but if any of you can also let me know about trail markings, would be great). Can we camp in the meadow last few days of May (re snow)? Thanks!

Probably a lot of snow.

Trail is obvious. Follow signs to Cairn Basin.

Check out field guide - click "field guide" near the top of the page, then "mt hood", "mt hood area",...

As of a few days ago people were reporting they couldn't make it all the way to the trailhead due to the snow, let alone the trail

Tom Dick & Harry Mt:
Hiked up yesterday evening the trail is completely free of snow, only a few small patches in the trees that will probably be gone all together in another few days.

By comparison on June 7th last year that final half mile to the summit was completely snow covered!
