As you make plans for the weekend the Mt. Hood National Forest has asked us to share information about closure areas due to the wildfires and the high fire danger. Also, the Timberline Trail remains open in its entirety although access on the north side is closed.

AH! Thanks so much for this. I found that map they put out incomprehensible, and half the links I tried to follow for more info on the FS website were broken, and some trails that I did look up that I knew were closed weren't listed as such. A clear text list of "these are open, these are closed" is exactly what I needed.

Thanks, I'll be visiting these links a lot in the coming months to see how things are progressing.

I guess TripCheck is a good place for status on the Historic Highway:

https://tripcheck.com/Pages/RCMap.asp#

Have other roads been closed? It looks like Larch Mountain Road is open, except for the normal winter closure.

Can anyone comment on forest roads like Palmer Mill Road and Multnomah Basin Road? They seem to be covered neither by the Forest Service trails page nor the TripCheck roads page. Would they be marked on site if they're closed? I don't want to go anywhere I shouldn't be, but I have had some nice hikes on those and would visit them again this winter if they're safe.

And for unofficial trails like the Foxglove network, does it make sense to follow the status of the nearest official trail, then proceed with caution when those are reopened?

Oh, that map and a closer look at the links above are helping me understand that it's not just a bunch of trail closures but an overall AREA closure, so I guess that would eliminate any alternatives in the entire area. Sigh.
