You can try calling the ranger station, number on lower left .... That's pretty close to them.

Pamelia Lake is at 3,900' and with the very heavy snowpack this year you will encounter snow if you go there in May.

Grizzly Peak is 5,800' and may not be accessible until August this year.

The Badger Creek Trail is snow-free at least 8 miles up and I saw only the tiniest of snow patches to that point, so you could probably go at least another half mile as of now. Badger Lake might be accessible by Memorial Day or early in June.

Oak Ridge trail is all clear of snow to Surveyors Ridge junction at 3,680’. Also saw Bald Butte and powerline saddle from a distance, not a hint of snow there either.

weird how until May 18 there were no stretches without rain since September

but there hasn't been any rain since or predicted for the next 10 days

is this a switch from a rainy pattern to a drought pattern?

Let's hope so! I am really, really tired of mowing my lawn and want it to play dead as soon as possible. Of coarse, some nice hiking weather would be nice, too.

This last Saturday (May 20th), I was on the south side of Mt St Helens, at the Marble Mtn Sno-Park (again). The gate is still closed on the 83 road. There are increasing patches of bare pavement out towards the June Lake TH, but generally there is about 2 feet of snow on the road. The wacko snowmobilers are still going, scraping their skis on the pavement.

I finally got to the summit of little peak 3537 (the first summit to the south of the Sno-Park). The road was about 99% snow covered, with 4 to 5 feet just below the summit. The summit ridge was almost bare, because of the winds blowing it off.

Larch has essentially melted out in the last two weeks. On May 7, there was a good 3-4 feet of snow in the forest down to 3500'-3800' there. Yesterday (5/24), only a few scattered patches in the trees on both Oneonta and LMT, and 8-12" in the parking lot and road.

Unlikely, as the Red Hill snotel is showing 70 inches still.
