Mosquito watch..

Post by pdxgene » April 26th, 2015, 9:55 am

Anyone else seen the evil-doers on their past couple hikes? I saw individual ones on all three hikes I did last week from 3,000-4,000' elevations (Burnt Lake, Clear Lake, Rho Creek). Just a few, they were landing and curious but not ravenous....

I saw a few skeeters on Washington coast and Olympics 2000 feet elevation. Just ignored them. Didn't notice any bites.

I stopped to talk to some nice folks at the junction of Vista Point #419 and Wahkeena #420 and was swarmed yesterday! I went 'ninja mode' and managed to avoid them. I guess the flowers aren't the only thing early this year.

Observation Peak today. Only one but it died quickly as I swatted it.

Nothing biting on Benson Plateau last weekend, though there were black flies flying around and gnats or noseeums hovering.

The parking near the Gumjuwac TH off hwy 35 has swarms of giant mosquitos now. They weren't an issue in the morning but we had to hurry into the car to avoid them on our return.

The skeeters are starting to become active in the 3 Fingered Jack region.
They are more plentiful & active on the east side vs west side.

This past weekend I saw 2-3 BIG mosquitoes each evening at Boulder Lake (4500') - they landed on me and tried to bite, but were slow. No bugs during the day.

We got swarmed by mosquitoes in the Bagby HS Parking lot around 5pm the other night. Not too many yet at the lakes higher up, or other times of day. The hatch has defintely begun...
