No more Hillary Step...
Re: No more Hillary Step...
Wow. That's crazy. My knowledge of Everest doesn't run much deeper than reading Krakauer and a few documentaries on Netflix, but this seems like a drastic change to climbing experience.
Would there not be evidence of the collapse somewhere? I feel the entirety of the Hillary Step falling would leave an observable debris pile, but I may also be failing to account for how far it would fall, snow cover, glacier movement etc., that would hide the evidence.
Interesting article. Thanks for posting.

I can't find the article now but there was a follow up saying that it is still there. One of the guides said that they did a re-route which is further to the right of the old route. He said the Hillary step is harder to see now because it is further away and has huge amounts of snow on it right now so the rock isn't showing through.

Yeah seems to be a debate going on about whether it is there on not! Seems a bit odd for something so significant!Limey wrote:I can't find the article now but there was a follow up saying that it is still there. Has the "Trump Hump" replaced the "Hillary Step"?
