Wygant Trail reborn and worth a visit.

Post by [email protected] » June 19th, 2017, 7:27 pm

Today (6/19/17) hiked the Wygant Trail and wonders of wonders, it has a rebirth. I’ve done it many times over the past 3-5 years and done some trailwork on sections and admired that done on rerouting, finding and clearing the old trail to the summit. But the problem has always been the 35-40 downed trees – most from 12” to 36” in diameter so it has been over, under, around and that makes for a tiring hike. No more! They have all been cleared. All cut by the State Park folks and they did a splendid job. Of course, there is a lot of poison oak down low and the bridge over Perham Creek is still missing (there is a good log crossing about 40ft upstream (which is flagged) but the tread is back and the several viewpoints (not the summit) are worth a visit. So put it on your list for a good adventure – you’ll not be disappointed.
