Action Alert: Bill to create Office of Outdoor Recreation

Post by Splintercat » March 31st, 2017, 7:52 am

Hello Oregon Hikers!

As you may have heard, the Oregon Legislature will be holding hearings next week on a bill that would create an Office of Outdoor Recreation within the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD). The bill would ensure that outdoor recreation finally has a meaningful voice in Oregon state government by creating an Associate Director of Outdoor Recreation and ensuring ongoing funding for trails and related outdoor recreation through a new Outdoor Recreation Fund that would become a permanent part of the OPRD.

This bill will only move forward if the outdoor recreation community weighs in, loud and clear. Trailkeepers of Oregon (TKO), Mazamas and other outdoor groups have already signed on to the legislation, and we encourage you to weigh in, too. Following the link below makes it easy to do, but please take action in the next few days, as the first hearing on the new bill is next Monday, April 4:

Thanks for helping TKO protect our trails and our public lands!
