Rock of Ages Loop hike - clarification

Post by prairiebean » October 12th, 2015, 7:41 am

Re: http://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide ... _Loop_Hike, one clarification:

when you reach Bell Creek Trail, directions currently say:
"You'll meet the Bell Creek Trail #459, which heads off to the left into some great old growth (which eventually takes you to Larch Mountain).

After another 0.5 mile or so you'll encounter a series of long switchbacks as you descend down the Oneonta Creek gorge."

This seems like it's saying: take the left on Bell Creek Trail, and after another .5 miles, you reach the switchbacks. (We stuck with Bell Creek for a looong time, convinced maybe the distance was feeling too short, since we took what we thought was the correct left.) Would suggest updating to say:

"You'll meet the Bell Creek Trail #459, which heads off to the left into some great old growth (which eventually takes you to Larch Mountain).

To continue on the Rock of Ages Loop, keep right. After another 0.5 mile or so you'll encounter a series of long switchbacks as you descend down the Oneonta Creek gorge."

Just for add'l clarity. Thanks for the instructions! Great hike.

So did you end up turning left onto Bell Creek by mistake, then? I've fixed the Field Guide entry to say that you should continue past the Bell Creek junction and down into Oneonta. Thanks for the heads up! :)
