"We've since only been on walks in our neighborhood and in Tryon Creek State park. "

That is interesting. Do you have any experience with Sandy River Delta Park? We've been to 1000 Acres about 200-250 times per year for the past 6 or 7 years for 2hr walks and this is the first year we've picked up ticks from there.

Jan-April 2015 Lyme Disease map from CAPC Vet

http://www.capcvet.org/parasite-prevalence-maps/

The data in this map was provided by IDEXX Laboratories and ANTECH Diagnostics. It is statistically significant and it serves as a strong representation of the parasite activity for each area. However, it does not represent the total number of positive tests. Instead, we estimate it represents less than 30% of the activity in the geographic regions. Data displayed for the current year showcases only the current year data. Depending on the time of year, this map view may only represent a small number of testing months.

I have a friend whose dog picked up three ticks (two dog ticks and one black legged tick) just a couple days ago at 1,000 acres. And my dog picked one up in Tryon Creek a couple months ago. Grrrrrrr Although I would not say they are common there.

@Waffle - Thanks for the tick report. Is Tryon Creek, being a SP, 100% on-leash? Our dogs have so much energy they really need a lot of time, ideally daily, off leash to run and dig.
