The purpose of this forum is to help people identify things they've seen while out hiking: wildflowers, trees, birds, insects, small animals, animal tracks, even geographical features like buttes or streams

flower ID

These were all over Badger Creek Wilderness about a month ago. Sweet smelling and the insects loved them. What are they?

Silver crown luina (Cacaliopsis nardosmia). Often with an oak/ponderosa pine association (and grand fir, which I see in the background).

I've never seen it with the flowers so open; I usually seem to catch it when it's just budding. Very distinctive leaves though.

Well, if you can find me a newt or something that can code, I promise to get it done. My last three developers have been of the avian type (still spitting out the feathers from the last one). I could gaze at them mesmerized for a time as they worked, but my carnal instincts eventually overrode project integrity.
