Photo-Location Contest #3

Post by mcds » September 16th, 2014, 1:09 pm

To steal Charley's opener: First reply with correct location wins. No awards. No prestige. Just the quiet pride of knowing your local hiking landmarks like the back of your hand.

Looks sort of like a coast redwood... or some kind of yew.

yep. as far as I know it's unique up here in USFS lands, but if you know of more than one location, feel free to correct me.

So it is a coast redwood? I don't know of ANY locations, outside of city parks and such... so I don't win the quiet pride.

If you think that's a landmark, you need to get out more. I know of a few locations where yew trees grow (which is what this appears to be from the needles, although the trunk of the tree would help). So, I'll take a stab at it: the picture is along the PCT north of Timothy Lake...or somewhere int he Coast Range...or....

Coast redwood, but you could assume that. The tread would make no sense otherwise. It is 15-20 feet tall, living in a statutory wilderness area in Oregon not far from Portland. My one photo of the underside is too blurry. The ID at the time was Sequoia sempervirens.
