Gopher Snake?
Gopher Snake?
Yesterday, on the way to McCall Point, I met these three guys getting ready for a race:
I think that the big guy may be a gopher snake. He was thick set (about the diameter of a cucumber) and around 4 1/2' long.
When the snake left, the two lizards patiently stayed for me to take pictures:
I think that one may be a Western Fence Lizard:
The other lizard had different coloring and a much shorter tail:
I lack knowledge regarding reptiles and would like help in this matter. Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Looks like one to me, Peder -- here's one from Dalles Mountain last year:
They're only deadly to mice.

Yep. Gopher snake and fence lizards (all).
Gopher snakes seem kind of doltish. I have a picture (somewhere) of my dog standing on one and it's waiting patiently for the dog to move.

That was my impression too! I thought it was my first rattlesnake till I checked in my reptiles of the NW book. The lizards were even more sluggish, as they permitted me to photograph them at a very close range. Thanks for the reptile ID.bobcat wrote:Gopher snakes seem kind of doltish.
