Scat on a rock in Paradise Park

Post by jimsiff » August 17th, 2018, 9:40 am

I’m wondering what kind of animal left their calling card on this rock in Paradise Park. Any ideas? It looks like there are some seeds and hair in there, which makes me think omnivore, but I really don’t know.

Unless that was rather small (it's hard to tell scale from the photo) that's pretty certainly from a bear.

I should have put my hand or foot down for scale. The pile was the size of a large adult male hand and a few inches tall. Thanks for the likely ID. That was my suspicion as well... I couldn't think of another large omnivore living on Mt. Hood.

Definitely bear. Surprised it's not purple... but then Paradise Park isn't really the best spot for huckleberries.

I've seen bear eating Mt Laurel Ash berries in Paradise Park. Orange or red color. Looks like bear poop, especially with the berries and hair in it.

I don't see any bells in it so it's hard to be 100% sure.

I like to imagine a newbie running across this as the first topic he sees on OregonHikers, and muttering "umm, no, I don't think this is the right board for me to join".

Now imagine the one who sees this as a first post, and says "just the forum for me!" :P
