That's an impressive camera! I know the weather-proofing feature on my Pentax K5iiS (and previously, K30) has allowed me free-rein to shoot in the rain while my friends hide their cameras in fear . You will love that feature: I guarantee it.SWriverstone wrote:After checking out all the cameras linked above (which all look great), I found the successor to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200, the Lumix DMC-FZ300. I think this is the camera for me: f2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, and weather sealed!
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about for a kicka$$ outdoor camera! I love the external controls on the Canon GX5...but having a weatherproof camera with the capabilities of the FZ300 is awesome.

I was going to recommend the similar FZ1000, which has a nice big 1" sensor... but I think the FZ300's weatherproofness and extra 200mm of zoom range (in a similar physical package that costs $200 less) make it a better choice.SWriverstone wrote:After checking out all the cameras linked above (which all look great), I found the successor to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200, the Lumix DMC-FZ300. My only personal issue with these Lumix FZ cameras — and the reason I'd still probably opt for the Canon G5X — is the bulk. Those things are MASSIVE! Check it out:

Yeah, that was my conclusion. Love the thought of having one of those. Can't imagine hiking with it. But that's just me, and my style.adamschneider wrote:My only personal issue with these Lumix FZ cameras is the bulk. Those things are MASSIVE!

Good point Adam (and nice comparison!). I had an older Panasonic Lumix, and I guess my memory of it is not being anywhere near the size of a full-size DSLR...but now that I look at your comparo image, I'm suddenly thinking the Canon looks a lot better! LOL
Ugh...choices!
