With no filters applied, GPS Visualizer simply adds up ALL of the elevation differences between all of your points. It's almost guaranteed to be an overestimate. But the conversion form now includes (in the "advanced" section) an elevation threshold: elevation differences won't be counted until they surpass that threshold in either direction. I just haven't figured out yet what the ideal value should be for sensible filtering, which is why it's still a somewhat hidden feature. It's going to need some explanation, especially since it works best in concert with DEM elevation data and the "trackpoint distance threshold."
